It is too hot to ship the blue orp eggs. They are very fragile as it is and the heat just kills them so easily in the mail. Wait till fall and lots of people will start up with eggs and shiping then. SpeckledHen is closer to you than I am.

The heat will not necessarily kill the eggs. If the temp gets to incubator temp then this is possible. I know a few people besides myself that sell eggs till the girls quit laying and most people know the risk of hatching eggs. Too cold too I have been told will kill them just the same and I have had good hatches for the most part all winter. It has been in the 70's here and just started creeping to the 80's which I still think to be safe. I do keep my eggs I gather (4+ times a day) in a 60 degree room with 70%+ RH. I also turn them 3X a day! With hatching eggs the care before placing them in the bator is really important as well. Some people just set them on their kitchen table and dont give them the care they need for the other person (customer) to get a good hatch. Yes, the best time of year is early spring and fall, but it can be done in the winter or summer!

Here in the south from now we will expect to have daily temps of 95 - 100+ through early September wth easily most days in the high 90%+ humidty. It is killing weather. I spent last summer experiencing what heat does to eggs. It may be different for you all in the PNW but the southeast is hellish hot from here on out. Even if I had 20 hens laying I would not ship eggs -especially not blue orps. Many down this way have stopped shipping due to the heat.

If my car registers 109F - 116F (last summer) in the sun sitting in a mail truck has to be as hot or hotter.

Chris, your temps would be safe, but ours down here are terrible. Even in the mtns at my altitude, it's in the mid 80's in the shade. Anyone else lower than I am in altitude would probably have temps in the upper 90's. I am not shipping right now. One thing is that even in the 80's, the carriers most often ignore the 'CALL CUSTOMER' stickers I put on the box and leave the box on the front porch or in the driveway in the hot sun.

I've gotten some eggs from the south this last week and 9 are growing out of 11. I had another batch from SC and none of them grew. It could be the heat, but there are also other factors in it probably. Yeah, it not necessarily good to ship in the heat/cold, but it can be done. With hatching eggs, it is a gamble either way period. This year here it has been unseasonably cold. this time of year we usually get in the 90-100+ degree range. Once my girls stop laying their done for the year till fall. Im more about spreading the joy one egg at a time. So, if some one told me they had none develop. I would be more then willing to send them eggs agian at no charge besides shipping. Which most people on eggbid dont offer to do! Im done hatching from my flock this year so the eggs are just going to get ate. The best thing IMO is to do your reseach and try things out for yourself.

Christina, I hope you got my pm about your eggs arriving safely? I hope I get a gorgeous splash like your avatar or edster's.
Keeping my fingers crossed on this hatch as it will be my last hatch this season. All these blue orps are certainly addictive to folks who see/want them.
