Hi all.I am new to raising turkeys and I have 9 week old bbb's.I have them in a tractor that has the back part enclosed and has metal roof i also have the entire top and 1/3 way down sides covered by a tarp. They are growing fast they are around 10lbs already. The problem is I'm driving my family crazy worrying about them.Every time it rains I have to have the "heavy duty"tarp placed on the tractor so they are completely covered(except front). The turkeys then stand by the front where it is opened .Boy does it get warm in there. My question is when are they old enough to get wet? They seem happier with just the top covered but every thing i read says keep them dry.Am I just being a overprotective turkey mama? Thanks for the help. BTW its raining today and yes both tarps are on lol

If you have a box fan, place that at an angle to the opening and let it move the air around in pen. We keep box fans outside of runs, in the summer, and the turkeys (particularly the toms) line up in front of them when resting on very hot afternoons (we are in the woods so they have that shade as well).

If you are going to be home you can let them wander with you if a storm isn't brewing. A couple of garden poles/broom handles, held out at your sides will allow you to herd them back (slowly) to their digs when the ranging time is over.
