I'm so sorry. That dog would be so dead if I caught it doing that. DEADER than dead.

Soooooooo sorry for your loss! What a bummer!

What did your neighbor say when you told them about their dog killing your chickens? in most places you have the right to ask for reimbursement AND a gaurantee their dog is secured. This dog will now kill any and all chickens he can get to. The ONLY way a dog like that can be prevented from killing again is to be put in a SECURE enclosure. At the very least, I would file a police or sherrif's report so it is documented they have a livestock killing dog.

Again, so very sorry for your loss.

Actually, they approached my husband when he was out walking around looking for the chickens and told him it had been their dog (she had come home with one of them in her mouth.) They seemed almost physically ill they were so sorry, especially when they found out 3 of our 5 were missing and we had feathers all over our lawn. Normally their dog is either penned or in an electrified run, so it was unusual for her to even be out. They did offer to pay for the hens; we decided to decline because we don't normally leave our birds out free-ranging while we're gone, so we felt we had some responsibility too. They are very kind people and responsible dog owners; sometimes life just happens.
