Another word of warning...and Help please!

Just make sure what ever medicine you put on his tongue does not have BENZOCAINE in it. I read a thread on here a while back where a chicken died after having benzocaine put on a wound. I agree trying some soft wet food may be easier for him to eat.

thanks for telling me that peepsnbunnies...i didnt know that...

....okay..so, i finally got the beak open more..dosent look good...its pretty mangled...

...i am going to make him a soft mash..or runny oatmeal..i dont know what else to do..he's so young and tiny!..if the string was tied there to long..i'm assuming the tongue will die off?..can he live?..or should i cull him, so he dosent suffer?...i cant take an animal suffering...

Stay away from Orajel and that type of stuff!!! Like peepsnbunnies said that benzocaine stuff is deadly from what i've learned on here!!!

Oh gosh i just felt panic thinking you could put that stuff on him....shewwwwwwww I'm glad you saw her post.

I would mainly keep an eye on him and see how he does for a few days. Watch to see if he's eating and drinking. If he isn't, then you'll need to help him. I know you've started to give him water, already, which is really good. The easiest way to give him water would be to use an eye dropper, to offer him drops of water. If he's not eating, either, then you could add a little sugar to the water, just to keep him going. Just like when you're trying to revive new chicks that have had a hard trip.

The biggest problem people can have when giving water or liquified food to any creature, is to force a bunch in and have it either inhaled or run down into the lungs. That's pretty deadly. Just offer drops and let him swallow on his own and he should do well with it.

Although ACV can be helpful for a lot of things, I'd be concerned that it would sting and cause him more pain, with a fresh wound. I wouldn't want to make drinking painful or he might just avoid drinking. That would be my only worry with using it, while the wound is fresh enough that you saw a bit of blood.

After he gets through the first couple of days, he might appretiate having some of his regular food softened with water. Poor little guy. I hope he feels better, soon.

Can you feed him like a frozen "popsicle" type of thing - like make something slushy out of something healthy for him maybe? I dont know if chicks can eat cold things or not but was trying to think if cold would help it.

Hey - I just thought of something I read on here about someone elses rooster that was bleeding (its comb) and they couldnt stop it - they used flour! Can you use flour to stop the bleeding or do you think it would be too pasty?
