Do you feed your chickens meat, do you think chickens should eat meat?

We rarely have leftovers, since it's just us 2 and we know how much to fix, but my chickens get scraps. About the only thing I don't give them is lots of fat (pig knuckles for bone broth leaves lots of fat on them bones!). We mostly eat the peel, too, so not too much to give them. DH would feed crackers with peanut butter to seagulls when he was in the navy and thinks it's great fun to watch them eat that, but not too often. I do, however, give them a bit of tuna or other fish when we have it and always do if they look poorly (molting) to make sure they're eating. If they turn that down, they're sick!

They are smart, slugs are nasty and can carry parasites that will infect the chickens.
good to know...and disgusting.

i have been a vegan for ten years until our gal laid her first eggs. (yes, i loved it!) i feel bad giving meat, but when i gave those hens cat food (fish) they went NUTS! i imagine that it was something may might have needed nutritionally, since they don't always get to free range. May be they needed more protein?
for me, it's not fair that I decide if they are vegetarian since they naturally eat insects and whatever. i occasionally give cat food (as healthy as I can find). We never have other meat around, but...if it was organic and clean...and already there, i would.
happy day!

I do not know a thing about cats or cat food but have heard people do use it as a treat. I prefer canned sardines, rinsed or tuna fish.

My chickens and my dog split a can of tuna once or twice per week.
It's the only treat they'll eat unless there's snow on the ground. Then they'll pick at some fruits and veggies.
I have a whole bag of scratch that I think I'll have to dump in the bush for the deer, my oldest hen will pick at it, the rest won't touch it.

Yes... mine LOVE chicken. They go ga-ga over tuna. They are so so about pork unless it’s tender (just like me lol). Beef (they don’t like hamburger) they will knock me over for. Fish of any kind (tonight we had Talapia) is a huge fan favorite.
They are spoiled!
