Anti-Social Chick?

Thanks for your replies

@hpyfmly
 Im glad Im not alone!=) Is your picture of an Easter Egger chick? She looks similar to one of mine.=)

No. That's Peri. We think she is a Silver laced Wyandotte. I do have an Ameraucana, I hear they are similar to Easter Eggers.

I have a 3 wk cornish x doing the same thing. It is not the voracious raptor like the others so i Moved it with 1 week bantams so she'd have food all day. She is a recluse and daydreams all day; does eat and drink but much smaller than the chick/pig cross chicks, and not nearly as feathered. The little chicks think she is mom, but she acts loke mommy dearest to them

She should be fine pecking at the eggs without having to mix them with feed. If she's smaller than the others, she may be at the bottom of the pecking order and getting less food.

I have a buff orpington hen (Buttercup) that started out as a very shy and reclusive chick. She is still shy and reclusive, and evades even being petted despite the fact that she was handled often as a chick. She's at the bottom of the pecking order, but holds her own and is a very good layer.

Provided your small chick is growing and moving around OK, you're probably just seeing a chick with a shy personality.

Thanks for all the replies! Just an update. My little Bernice is doing good. She likes eating the crumbled yokes and is just the sweetest snuggler. She has perked up a bit in the brooder, but remains shy. But overall I'm very happy with her progress. :)

I'm so happy she is doing well. :)

Thanks! Me too. She is still much smaller than the other BO, Im starting to wonder if I ended up with a Bantam on accident…? I have no idea.

My Sussex that had the crop issue is smaller than the other Sussex.... Her feathers haven't came in as fast as my other Sussex either.... She is growing though... One of my BA is also a tad smaller than my other BA....it's possible to get chicks mixed up too... Where did you get them from?

I have the exact same situation with a 10 day old chick, a lace winged wyandotte. She is smaller, her wings are longer than her body, her head is normal size but her body is short. When eating she often just pecks at the red plastic and she often turns and faces the wall when the others are running around. Her poo looks different ( not as formed) but according to the poo chart it's normal. I got her the day after she was born and she slept more than the others and I didn't think she would make it but she's still here. We live in the city and I haven't found a vet that treats chickens but I'm still not 100% positive she's sick ~ maybe just developmentally slower ~ I stress over her. The other 6 are so healthy!

Im sorry! It is really stressful. Unfortunately I lost my little girl. She was the sweetest chick. I would take her out multiple times and hand feed her- mashed feed with yogurt and hard boiled yoke. She would eat for me, but she just didn't end up having the fight in her. But I know I did everything to help her that I could.

Try hand feeding her to make sure she is getting enough food. Also maybe a little sugar water never hurts to get her to pep up and eat with the others. Also keep some electrolytes on hand for her. I hope that helps.
