Antibacterial/Antimycoplasmal Antibiotic question

Hi there, I was reading an old post regarding an antibiotic mix of Lincomycin & Spectinomycin and if given to chicks under one week of age it would prevent Mycoplasma respiratory disease "for the life of the bird". Is this correct??

Label says " For the use in chicks up to 7 days of age for the control of Airsacculitis and Complicated Chronic Respiratory Disease"

Would be interested in seeing that also. I've never heard of any antibiotic providing immunity to any future infection, they only treat what is there. Only vaccines, when available, can do that and those are not 100% effective either. Found this excerpt from Merck on mycoplasma: Antibiotics may alleviate the clinical signs and lesions but do not eliminate infection.

I'm still very interested in your finding the old post and giving us a link to that.
If you re-read that label for LS-50 it is an "aid" in "control". Birds with Mycoplasma are carriers for life.

L-S 50 Water Soluble® Powder is recommended for chicks up to seven days-of-age as an aid in the control of:

• Airsacculitis caused by either Mycoplasma synoviae or M. gallisepticum (Chronic Respiratory Disease – CRD)
• Complicated Chronic Respiratory Disease (CCRD) caused by Escherichia coli and Mycoplasma gallisepticum

This is a Canadian thread. The antibiotic called Linco-Spectin 100

In the US I could only find an antibiotic with the same mix called L-S 50

I found this as well from the UK.. "Prevention of CRD 1. Administer 150 mg of antibiotic activity (=50 mg lincomycin +100 mg spectinomycin) per kg body weight per day for the first three to five days of life. 2. Interesting. I would still like to see something in official documentation/study that makes the claim. I have heard of the egg dipping method to prevent the chicks from getting it, and can see how the treatment would work for that, but never heard that it protects them for life. I'm skeptical, but open to being educated.

I too would like to see more documentation. In the discussion on the one forum, it seem that "prevention" and "treatment" seemed to be interchangeable at times.
There are lot so folks that have MG Positive flocks that give "preventative" for 3 days each month (Denagard). This for the most part keeps the flock "symptom free". It does not mean it has been cured, they just control symptoms.

I not studied or researched the egg dipping or air cell injection well enough to comment on that aspect.

I agree 100% and am hopeful perhaps someone has some documentation on the matter. I have searched and found nothing on permanent protection. I vaccinate older birds for MG and Larynotracheitis (wild birds exposure and a high population of back yard "exhibition" birds in the area) was thinking if this where true for chicks how much nicer (and easier) that would be!
