I thought it would be worth mentioning and letting members know by the end of the year in canada there will be huge changes in canada for the purchase of antibiotics for the use of livestock.

We can no longer purchase them without a veterinary prescription. So suggesting to do so at the local farm store will no linger be possible!

If you are in canada and no not have a working relationship with a vet yet I suggest you get one in the event you have to treat an animal of yours. If you have working relationship and great records you can be ready by having the meeds you know you will need every year on hand. For example we have cases of phenomena every year in calves so we CAN be prepared to act fast with meds on hand.

Im sure most of us up here know the changes are coming but it might be helpful for all the wounderful advice givers that our regulations are changing as well!

Thanks for a heads up , I had a rude awakening when I went to buy my poultry dust from the vet and they informed me they don’t carry it because of the pesticides ban !!

I make a big order from amazon ASAP !
Get it while you still can , not sure why we can’t make our own informed decisions...

Its whole basis is to combat anti-microbial resistance.

I am still able to have meds on hand and treat as needed, but you MUST have a working relationship with a vet to be able to keep working like that.

This will likely be harder for urban flocks or small hobby farms. It is in a way easy for me as we have cattle and a feed lot to run and work very closely with several vets.

I do have a working relationship with my vets , sometimes I have to work to pay my vets !

I don’t agree that I have to get their approval before I treat my animals , this will be a challenge and an expense I don’t need.

I don’t agree with this , it started with us having to convince people to let us buy round up and now I have to pay a vet to prescribe products for my birds that they have no clue how to use.

I hope they require training for them because mine don’t know a Rhode Island from a silkie :/

Im not going to get into a debate, I don't like it either but people still need to be prepared and ready for the changes regardless of their feelings on the matter.
