You will need to cover the top with a tarp to serve as a roof. Omlet sells one that fits well. This will keep the chickens dry and provide shade. Or you will need to find one that fits that has grommets to attach to the run. The covered run will also prevent aerial predators (hawks, vultures) from seeing your chickens when flying over.
I also suggest an extra tarp or two for wind mitigation on the run sides and if you get rain that blows sideways this will help keep the chickens dry.
During hurricanes, you will need to remove all tarps or the run could become a sail and end up down the road. Additionally, you will want to place bricks or rocks along the skirt all around to help secure it to the ground which also provides storm and wind support.
Once you start putting food in there, you will attract song birds and squirrels to the buffet through the larger squares. I suggest either covering these larger squares all around with garden cloth or hardware cloth, both of which will need to be applied with zippy ties. A lot of work and time consuming but it will prevent issues long term. Trust me on this one.
There is nothing more aggravating than watching the girls wig out from a squirrel running loose in the run. I have a permanent scar on my face from being attacked by one when trying to catch it to remove it.
