just wondering if anyone has any experience with an antibiotic called ilium Sulprim?

It was prescribed for a sick layer, with quite advanced respiratory illness. However, on the lable it clearly states "Do not use on birds producing eggs for human consumption". But on another section it states, "Pullets: "Do not use within 14 days of the onset of lay. Discard any pullet eggs produced within 14 days of final treatment."

I find all of this very confusing, and the manufacturer couldn't help either. What do other people use for respiritory illness in egg layers?

Oddly, it has been a problem with my French Wheaten Marans, but never had any issues previously with PRs or Australorps. Any thoughts please?

Basically, any eggs that she lays while on treatment could potentially contain the antibiotic. That means no eating any of the eggs until 2 weeks after she finishes treatment. These warnings are mostly aimed at commercial egg farms, so that eggs tainted by antibiotics don't make it into the food supply.
Most respiratory illnesses are viral, and prescribed antibiotics are usually ineffective. Did the vet do any sort of testing to ensure that the antibiotics are the right course of treatment? Many vets that aren't experienced in poultry tend to prescribe antibiotics for just about everything.
Your other breeds are likely naturally resistant to the illness. May want to consider crossing in a few Australorps to your Marans line to develop that resistance in you Marans.

The vet may have prescribed it to treat a secondary infection. Have you asked the vet? Your vet, having prescribed the med should be well versed in it's use and able to answer your questions. That's what they get paid for.
