Anyone heard of this? I was told to dump used coffee grounds under and around my pet food bowls and it would keep ants away from the food. I wonder if it would work to make the red ants move their mound somewhere else...?

Ants Hate Coffee???? THATS WHY I DONT LIKE ANTS!!! Jeesh! I mean....I GOTTA have my coffee! LOL
I never heard that before...but could not use that trick...my Doberman...LOVES coffee grounds! She will get them out of the trash, if I put them in there. So now they go to the garden!

Never heard that one, but hey, I have the materials, LOL. Deb, my family raised Dobes for show when I was a kid. I had a dog, Boxer/Retriever mix, who passed away recently who would go into the trash for just about anything-I couldn't leave my coffee mug sitting on a table because he would drink it.
Wonder why coffee would keep ants away...Worth checking out.

Cynthia,

I KNEW we were connected in more than just chickens! When I was growing up, my mother raised Dobes. Hers were more for guard training. Our Main male....Ronses Luke...was a great dog. BIG black and tan.
My little Dobe is a baby...well she is 7 yrs old...but a big baby. She is a rescue..when I got her, the vet said I was wasteing my money trying to save her...Her spine was split wide open, rotten flesh, infection...near death. She is healthy, happy, and loves laying on her blankie on the sofa. ( as long as its clean...if I dont wash it every few days, she will pull it off, and just look at me like to say, " you want me to lay on THAT dirty thing"?) Crazy dog!!

Hey, A.F., I did a search and it does seem to be true! How cool! Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

Deb, one of my Dobe girls was huge; came from a very large male. She was about 90 lbs and very tall. I've had reds and blues as well as the black and tan, but not since I've been married. We adopted shelter dogs after that, but I have seen from time to time, purebred Dobes in the shelter. Sad, isn't it? They're such a dignified breed.

Coffee and coffee grounds have a lot of uses in the garden. Sprinkle it around your plants to keep ants and other crawling bugs off of them. It also acts as a fertilizer for plants, especially acid loving plants like tomatoes.
