The ants finally found the feeder and are helping themselves to the feed. They are not fire ants (which the girls will NOT (unfortunately) eat, but the black ants with large brown heads. Is there any way to keep ants out of feed? Maybe if I hang it up? Its a box with holes in the side that sits on blocks. Any remedies out there?

I would hang it or buy a hanging feeder. I have hanging feeders and they work fine not ants and little mess.

Hope this helped!

In the meantime, you may wish to consider putting the feed out in direct sunlight as ants hate it after a while and move on.

So on a slightly different note, what would you all say to the fact the lid on our chicken scratch got left off for a night and now there are some little bugs in it. Should I throw out the 30+ lbs. of chicken scratch? Anyone had this happen or what do you think is best?

A few bugs will just add a little protein... As long as the feed didn't get wet or moldy and isn't completely infested, it should be fine to finish off...

Thanks. That is what I was thinking ... but we are new to this so I didn't want to assume without a little feedback. Thanks again.
