Ants in the nesting box

one of our eggs is always covered in ants,even if the other eggs are laid in the same box they're not affected; can anyone explain this?

Have you tried liberally sprinkling diatomaceous earth (DE) powder in your nesting boxes and the coop? That could help get rid of the ants. Maybe there's some dampness or tiny blood spots on a particular egg that is attracting them.

thanks for the tip and warm welcome! it's nice to have someone to ask questions about the girls, none of my family or friends have chickens.
 
You can always find someone to talk chicken to around here, this board is full of nice people and very helpful.
