Be glad You have no fire ants there. They dont go away we use amdro bait and the mound dies but i'm not so sure the ants don't move to another nest, and of course you cannot use it where the chickens range because it looks like chicken feed. Ants carry it to the nest and feed the queen and all supposedly die. It is said that fire ants are the reason quail and a lot of ground nesting birds are on the decline here. If something lays on the ground very long they will find it and..........

Yeah, I am glad we don't have fire ants here. All our bugs and weather are whimpy compared to other places!

I have ants in my yard that sting and bite. They get you with both ends...really hurts too...
I've done the boiling water and the ant stakes.
Boric acid is supposed to help too.
Obelisk has eaten some carpenter ants, she grabs one and takes off it's head then eats the rest of it.

Fire ants are horrible critters, carpenter ants are voracious wood eaters. It took 3 applications of 3 different pesticides to get them out of our garage.

I do not like to use pesticides!!! The carpenter ants were my exception!!!!

As far as the small black ants go I love them!!
Most people do not realize that these are beneficial. They help to pollinate fruit trees and crops. AND THEY EAT TERMITE LARVE!!!!!!!

If you have them under your house you will not have termite damage!! As far as keeping them out of the house , on the market they have small plug in the outlet electronic boxes that emit a low frequency through your wiring in your house.
The ants hate this , so they leave. You will need to have a box for every "wiring run" in your home.
I have been using these for 8 years and they work great. I got them at our local Emigh hardware store. Est $ 25-35.00 each. Well worth it!!.
If you do decide to bait then remember ants forage for sugar foods in the spring and for meat food in the fall.

Fire ants are also doing in the horny toads. They swarm and kill all sorts of ground animals. They are non-native so have no natural predators here. HATE 'em.

Hey update on fire ant predators, something in the back pasture has been taking the tops off the ant beds, I assume they/it are eating the eggs the little buggars are keeping in the mounds. i'm hoping they/it develops a liking and an insatiable hunger.. I intend to start raising , feeding and promoting whatever it is! I could get rich.... or not

If it will eat fire ants heaven only knows what kind of animal it is! If its meaner than fire ants I'd stay clear of it! You haven't had any UFO sighting have ya? LOL
