You bet it was, probably saved you a bunch of money. Sevin dust will kill ants, $4.97 at Lowe's for a 1 pound canister. I use it for fire ants, kills them dead.
Lice and mites on chickens too. Fleas on dogs as well, prevents them from getting ticks.

5% sevin dust is all you need.Like dawg53 said. I personally love it for all my birds but ducks mainly. It kills most all the insects,fleas and mites.It is also totally safe for the birds. Whats not good about it???!!!

Will chickens not eat fire ants? I just noticed Fire Ants in the run this morning for the first time, not a hill but just on a piece of some treat the chickens left behind. I was hoping the chickens would take care of them for me...

My chickens wont eat them. Chickens for the most part instinctively know what's good to eat and what's not good to eat. If a chicken were to eat fire ants, there's a possiblity of the ant(s) stinging the esophagus when swallowed causing swelling. The swelling could close the windpipe and the chicken would possibly suffocate to death.

I have been seeing ant around my duck pen also. So you say it's totally safe for ducks I can just sprinkle it every where and leave the ducks in the pen. Well I wouldn't leave them in there while I was sprinkling so they wouldn't breathe it, but they could go directly back in there. I also have ducklings would it be safe for them also?

I would leave them in. Totally safe. My ducks and some ducklings would be dead about a week ago if not true. I was shaking it on an antbed by my pen and I totally fogged em because of the wind. They are all fine. 5% Sevin dust is the only bug and ant killer I know that is totally safe for birds. Although I personally still dont recommend totally fogging them with it

but yes you can actually shake it on chickens or ducks. My friend had real bad mites on his chickens a long time ago and he hosed them with sevin dust and he said, and I quote "Live or die!" Well long story short they all lived and no mites ever again, Also if they have mites you can put it in where you know the birds dustbathe. It is seriously great stuff!!!
