And although it is a truck, I don't intend to move it. I am limited in level ground, and there's not a whole lot of options in a small yard anyway, lol.

Sounds like you're on the right track. DEFINITELY, get the 1/2 hardware cloth on those sides & even the floor. If you aren't going to move it, I'd dig down about 6 inches all the way around & bury the hardware cloth, that way any nasty critters can''t dig in & get your babies.

Well, i can see making a duck sleeping area under the area for the chickens. If the ducks are out and about during the day with their pool, they should be fine sleeping in the pen in an enclosed area. What kind of ducks do you have? Because none of my ducks want to roost.
