the ventilation on this incubator has two holes in the top middle on the side, plus 2 small holes on the bottom corner, you shouldn't need more ventilation than that, just dont plug up the holes. also your turning time isn't ideal, its equal to if you were to manually turn them, setting it to turn every two hours is ideal and increases hatch rates. you'll want to get a thermometer and hygrometer than can withstand moist air and high temps, since you'll have to have them in the incubator. I've heard people say that reptile ones work best.

Thanks Maddison, feeling a little dismal with my pre research efforts, i'm sorry you have had losses with this machine, can't imagine your frustration & losses. I'm certainly grateful of all your feedback though as it eliminates more of the same. :th

Its okay its sad and frustrating at first but I've learnt that these things just happen, I had previously assisted two chicks that almost fell victim to this when I got worried after they stopped zipping, when it happened again several online articles told me to wait and "the chick knows what it's doing", well it didn't and if I had just listened to my gut I could have saved them, just goes to show you shouldn't believe everything you read on the internet. I've found a lot of internet articles are actually incorrect, you can really only learn on your own. after I've found the correct and most effective ways to hatch/what to do I'm going to create an article about it here to help out other Aussies, since most info here is catered to the USA and usually differs from AUS info.

GREAT IDEA, really pleased your going to put in out there, i'm not pro and a complete newbie at all of this. Even from what you have shared to me, iv'e already felt more comfortable or insightful of this whole hatching en-devour, all pretty worrying and you've already been there done that (sadly in some cases - & sorry :( ) Greatfull of all or any info you can put out there to prevent fatalities and a happier ending for all. From the short time i have been here on this site, i think we are all here to make everyone be more successful of what we are trying to achieve, bring these beautiful feathered friend into the world and flourish. Pretty darn appreciative of what you already have given me and thank you allot, i don't want to be God to these lovely creatures and not do the right thing to make sure it's as successful as it possibly can be (outside natural environments) we have heaps of hurdles and uncertainties with the products and info from other sources that don't ring true to our own experiences. thanks again, i'm listening and appreciate all your time :bow

VERY SAD DAY TODAY :hit we lost all our eggs at 13 days, when we candled on day 10 they were all wiggling & fine, I lifted lid today to add water as neccesary and noticed it was extremely hot inside, the eggs to touch were really hot. The temp reading on the incubator was 37.5 degrees, it obviously wasn't, i checked the insuse temp with another two thermometers I had and they both read 46 degrees. Candled all the eggs and all were dead, SO heartbroken and beside myself, faulty incubator killed them all.

That terrible, you can never trust the Chinese rip-off brands! I set up a hygrometer today and found out my incubators reader was off my about %30!! I've never had any problems with temp since it seems to stay accurate and my chicks haven't any issues that would arise from incorrect temp, however, I'm going to add another thermometer to be safe. Losing a batch is heartbreaking and frustrating but once you've got everything sorted out correctly hatching can be a blast. I hope that this experience hasn't turned you off hatching, these things happen however sad they may be, but hatching can be fun! if you've got the money you could fork out for a high-quality incubator or simply set up temp and hygrometers, letting the incubator run for a few days to sort out what you SHOULD be setting your incubator too, for example on my incubator the humidity on the reader is at %90, but in actual fact its only at %60 according to the hygrometer. I hope that you decide to try hatching again in future! :hugs
