Yesterday my husband and I cut down some trees and bushes at my parents house. After cutting down one of those bushes, while we were moving all the branches I found two baby birds. One of them was dead, the other seemed ok. Now that all of the bushes are down and there are no trees close, I figured the mom would not come back, even if she did my parents dog would have made the baby a snack. So feeling guilty I brought it home with me. I think it is a Mourning Dove, and probably only a few days old as the eyes have not opened yet. I am keeping it in a little tupperware container with a dish towel in it, sitting on top of a heating pad on low. (All of my hatching and chick raising supplies are being used right now) I have been feeding it high protein baby cereal mixed with warm water, and it eats really well. I am just not so sure that is the best thing for it. I am pretty broke right now, so spending lots of money for specialty food is not possible. I do not want to keep it as a pet, I want to be able to let it go free when it can fend for itself. Any advice? I will take any help right now as I have never raised a baby Dove.
