Any birdwatchers? What is this bird?

I just uploaded a picture to my profile of a strange wild bird (the bird perched on a branch over the pond algae). Maybe one of you birdwatchers know its identity. It stopped by at our pond one day years ago and hasn't returned. It was in the summer in CT. We were wondering what it was. Thanks

The blue heron comes every year but this one only came once.
