Had to get her our of the trees and so she would go into her coop for protection at night.

I have 10 silkie chickies that were a week old today and I took them outside. They LOVED it

It was in the 70s maybe but probably warmer in the sun.

To contain them I set up my hamster playpen I have from when I had a hamster. Just find something around the house to contain them in. A cardboard box without the bottom?

I'll be taking my chickies out everyday when it's nice out from now on!

OH man, that would depend on the weather there. Wisconsin can have some cool days yet for baby chicks.
And for that many, I think I would want to put them in a small fenced in area.
Last year when I took our young ones out, I would only take out 2 at a time. I was afraid they might get too brave and wonder off. I sat there with them the whole time.

Then again, I might just be to worried about them, but in the country, you can never be too worried about baby chicks. Never know when a hawk might come along, or a dog.

Oh chicks are nuts. We had some bantam cochin chicks that had a WWF smackdown everyday! And sometimes one would grab a shaving and run off with it like it was a crown jewel, and everyone would give chase.

Our showgirls are so darling and delicate. They definitely aren't as rowdy as the cochins. But so cute!

Well lets hope they don't do what our leghorn hens did. I don't know where they got a chipmunk leg, but they were chasing each other around the yard one day playing keep away with that chipmunk leg. My boyfriend said it looked like they were playing football.

.......I have no idea what happened to the rest of the chipmunk, but with those girls, who knows:rolleyes:

I had the same problem with scratching shavings into the waterer so I put it up on a 4X4. My chicks could hop up to drink and it kept the shaving out. The other problem I had was the chicks scratching all the food out of the feeder! My daughter suggested we put the feed in a fisbee to catch all the food. It worked great, no more waste, at the end of the day I empty all the food from the frisbee back into the feeder.

My babies do that too. Whats even funnier is that the one with the shaving will drop it, back off & watch the others fight over it.

Sometimes chicks can be quite dumb. I remember the first time we hand-raised about 6 chicks, and 2 of them would sit all day and peck at their toes...

Of course, some of our hens can be quite intelligent. One of our older hens, Roxy, used to get 'stuck' behind our food dish, and cry and croak until one of us came to rescue her. As soon as we opened the coop door, they all came running out to play, INCLUDING Roxy.
Not all chickens are as stupid as you think, I guess.
