My old pastor used to say... sitting in church on Sunday doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in a garage and saying "HONK HONK HONK" makes you a car

Where has this thread been all my life??? Still reading through all the posts - but wanted to comment that I recently took my DD to J.J. Heller concert. DD was thrilled and got to meet and get a pic with JJ and a signed disc. She loves "Your Hands", but she listens to the cd all the time now. Getting to know the other wonderful songs she sings.

I am a real princess to the King of Kings!! I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!

You, too, Cindiloo.

Since most of us here are Christians I feel somewhat safe asking this question. When teaching the Bible I usually ask this. What is the difference in FAITH and TAKING GOD FOR GRANTED? I ask this because I listen to TV and whenever there is a tragedy someone comes forward says that because of their faith God protected them. They don't even look at the other side of the coin which says that God punished those without that faith. So I ask you, What is the difference in FAITH and TAKING GOD FOR GRANTED?

I'm not yelling with caps.

Oh, man -- I bet it was awesome! I'm just in love with her music and message. God obviously gave she and her hubby, Dave, an awesome gift. I haven't seen her in concert. She's coming to Michigan in late April ~ hoping maybe we can go! I bought her three CDs for myself, but my six year old DD loves them, too. She and I sing away in the car.

I haven't joined in the discussion but have enjoyed reading all the post..this is an interesting question Speckledroo, one I have thought of before and am anxious to see other answers. To me the answer is: Faith is confidence that God is the answer to all questions IF I do what is expected of me and all that is in my power (that He has given me) to achieve the answers; such as accepting Jesus Christ as my savior, reading my bible, trying to live according to the bible. Knowing that If I do these..and many other..things that is asked of me, God will handle every question and request. Taking God for granted is "knowing" but not putting that knowledge or faith to work..asking and expecting, sitting there doing nothing..not holding up my end of the bargain.???

I believe there is a warped version of "faith". Having said that, when I refer to faith, I mean "faith in the Christian God" .. you can have "faith" in alot of stuff.

I would be more inclined to think that if I were kept safe in a situation that seemed impossible, it would be more by the GRACE of God .. rather than MY FAITH. Afterall, I had nothing to do with it... and many "faithful" people have perished.

I believe that FAITH in God is believing that -- regardless of the circumstance -- God is in control. TRUST in God.

I also believe that many people have "faith" in THEIR FAITH .. rather than in God. "I have faith" .. or "It was because of MY FAITH" I've been guilty of this. "If only I had a little MORE FAITH" ..

So, to answer your question .. in my opinion..

When our "faith" becomes "faith in MY FAITH" .. rather than faith and trust in God .. we are taking God for granted.

Love the question.

Here's my DD favorite JJ Heller song ~
. She loves to just belt it out! I had to laugh, about a month ago she had a double ear infection and the beginnings of strep throat. My hubby had taken her to the doctor and then I met them in town to fill her prescription. Hubby had to go to school. So there was a wait for the meds. We decided to grab a bite to eat. On the way to pick up the meds this sick little girl is just belting out this song ~ Save Me. And I mean at the top of her lungs! I called my hubby and said are you sure she has strep throat? God is great! It filled my heart with many blessings!

By the way -- the video says you can download the album for free. You can't any longer, it has expired.
