We ordered 25 Assorted Heavy Pullets from Ideal 2 weeks ago, 5 of our chicks are black with yellow and are feathering in all black so far. They're only 2 weeks old so there's a lot of feathering yet to do but I looked up how to tell Australorps and Jersey Giants apart and the feet was the answer, white Australorp, yellow Giants. Well all 5 are yellow so that most likely rules out Australorps. These chicks are big chicks too. They aren't huge or anything but they are definitely not the smaller chicks in the brooder. We're thinking the 5 white chicks we have with yellow legs are White Rocks, the 5 brown chicks are Partridge Rocks? Lastly the 5 yellow chicks feathering in with red and stripes maybe Production Reds or New Hampshire Reds? I'm trying to determine if any are ones I want to sell rather than raise out to the layer flock we are planning. The last 5 look to be assorted colors of Cochins.

This is fun! As they grow, spend time with the Ideal catalog, so you can see what choices they had to pick your chicks from. then, it's easier to figure it out. Leg color, comb type, feathering, all part of the picture.
Some will have to be older to be sure too.
