Any chicken coops for under $75?

Ask your case manager about whether there is a local “friends of foster care” type organization that might be able to match some funds for you or help you find a used coop. My children became permanent members of our family from care and I know such organizations exist in many places.

I built our duck house and pen from scratch. Materials can be expensive, but I was able to get several free pallets that gave me good hardwood lumber. Wood fence slats, either new or used, are another source of lumber.

Think about what you will need to protect your chickens from in the way of predators in your area. That will help you know what type of structure will be needed. The hoop coop idea someone else mentioned, or a simple A-frame coop could be a way to get a starter coop/run built on the cheap as long as it could withstand the predators in your area. Sometimes, as you start to gather materials and look at what is available, the right design will develop in your mind.

I’m glad your foster parents are encouraging you and helping you get back to something you enjoy!
