Hi all, Newbie here, I recently purchased my first chickens and I have what may be a silly question. (Barred Rock, New Hampshire Red and an Ameraucana). I've only had 2 eggs from the New Hampshire Red, and no signs of eggs from the others. Do they get "stressed" during a relocation and slow down egg production? I was told they were daily layers, but only the 2 eggs so far. I live in Silver Springs, FL and it has been fairly chilly here for the past few days, so that may have something to do with it, too? Any answers would be appreciated!

Thank you!

Hi :welcome Jeanette

Glad you could join the flock! It's not a silly question at all. Yes hens can become stressed when they are relocated and egg production can be affected. That's your most likely reason no for a drop off in egg production. Daylight hours and moult can also have an affect too.

Wishing you the very best of luck with your girls in the future. Be sure ask any questions that you may have, everyone here to help and very friendly.

Enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow

I was also told my 1 1/2 yr old buff orps were layers, and I got them 6 wks ago,and still no eggs. I could see moving stress, but 6 wks later? Alot of people aren't honest when rehoming "laying hens". I won't buy another adult from anyone again. I also got 2 - 9 m old slw hens. They supposedly stopped laying because of molting, but they've been done molting for 3 weeks. No eggs.

Thank you all for your replies. I have an update! The barred rock finally layed one last night/early this morning. Just waiting on the easter egger now to make her egg laying debut.

Thank you again for all your well wishes! Best of luck in all you do!
