I have a barred rock roo who has been in his own pen since he was about 4 months old. This pen is isolated away from the other birds. All he can see all day is several turkeys but he does not have access to them.
Now he is 8 months old and I want to breed him with a Rhode Island Red. I tried to put her in there and all his feathers stuck up on the back of his neck and he just went wild trying to attack my poor girl. I figured he wanted a girlfriend but boy was I wrong!
Is it because he did not know it was a hen? Should I put her in a pen right next to him for a while so he can "check her out".
Any advice would be appreciated.
