Dear fellow quail enthusiasts,
We have Coturnix quails for pets and we’re excited to find this Forage seed mixture at tractor supply recently. Has anyone seen this and used it with their quail? I am attaching a couple of photos, one of the ingredients list. Thoughts? Opinions?
Thanks!
-Christopher

What is the protein content of that? Looking at the ingredients, I'm thinking it's going to be too low in protein for healthy quail. Young birds (under 6-8 weeks) need around 25-28% protein, and older birds still need 18-20%.

This feed is aimed at chickens, which have different nutritional needs.

I do not think this is feed-I believe it is a seed mix you plant and grow for free range.
  • NON-GMO INGREDIENTS: Contains white clover, tetraploid perennial ryegrass, tetraploid annual ryegrass, flax, and alfalfa seeds. The mixture is non-coated.
  • VARIETY OF USES: Mixture can be used for free range chickens/poultry and also backyard game birds, goats, and sheep. Plant in a plot of soil in your yard, chicken run, or in trays.
  • CAN HELP HEALTH OF EGGS: Some of the ingredients in this mix have been shown to increase the level of Omega-3 in eggs.
  • SWIFT GERMINATION: With sufficient moisture, the seeds germinate within 7-14 days.
  • COVERAGE AND CLIMATE: 1-2 lbs per 1000 sq. ft. and is best in the transition and northern climate zones.
