Hi.Please tell me your experience with shipping/ recieving live birds. I was wondering if there was anyone out there who has had some experience with it . How did it work? Insurance form the post office? Safety issues? I will be having a live chick shipped to me(Young adult) Thanks!

p.s, i hope i posted this in the right section. Sorry if i did not.

I have had several dozen live birds shipped to me with no Problems. Day old chicks is another story but young adults that don't need heat anymore have always arrived in good shape. Just be sure they have access to water as soon as possible. A quiet place where no other birds are harassing them for a day or two also helps.

Check with your post office to make sure they accept live birds at their facility. I know of someone who just got her bird shipped back to origin because her post office does not accept live birds.... chicks and eggs yes, but not the older live birds.

I had some bantams shipped to me, they arrived in one day in perfect condition.

I had a dozen BCM sent to me via mail. They arrived the next day at 6:30 am and the PO called me to let me know. The seller sent me 2 extra chicks...there were 2 dead on arrival chicks when I opened my box. I still had the 12 I paid for so I was still happy.

My only live ship experience. I would do it again.

I just shipped 6 week old quail from Al to NJ they went express were suppose to be there next day by 12 noon. They weren't they never updated the status of the shipment. But they did get them the following day at 10 am everyone was alive I got a refund for the shipping and sent it back to the purchaser. So all and all they all made it and it was an ok shipping experience for my first time shipping live birds.

I ordered a breeding pair of silkies, ages 4 mo and 6 mo. They both arrived fine. They had some shavings in the bottom to snuggle in and some pieces of apple cut up also.
They arrived fine, but were sure ready to get out of that box!
