Hi! I miss my Roos so much. They were my babies. They hated my son though and when push comes to shove, my son comes first.

With that being said, we cant wait to get another roo for our flock. Any good experiences with yours? (Past or present)
What breed did u have the best experiences with?
Looking forward to y'alls responses!:wee
I love hearing stories about "the good rooster".

Well, I love hearing stories about chickens in general. God knows they are all I talk about these days. :duc

I have a lovely lil' story of a SLW and EE Roo! They're both deiced now but i have the son of my one EE roo who looks just like him named Duck since we thought he was a duck egg but hatched out to be a EE. Lovely lil thing has his father's huge tail feathers!

Enough about him though!
I just came back from working and went on to check on my chickens. Opened the coop and saw that everyone was inside all freaking out. FIrst thing i did was count them and noticed that two of my roos were missing. So running out to the run i saw them way out back beating up on what i thought was my sussex speckled! after i ran up to them i kicked them off of my chicken and off went a hawk limping away then taking off! I was so surprised and gave my boys a talk of how proud i was and gave them both some treats. I miss them dearly but i now have an even more nice rooster growing up as a mighty fine looking rooster.

I had wanted chickens for awhile. I kept talking myself out of it. On the way home from a wedding last July, I stopped in at Rural king and picked up 10 chicks. All girls.

By late October I was wanting a rooster. I loved the crowing and in the future I wanted chicks again. So I looked everywhere for a rooster. I found 5 and was trying to narrow down on just 1. They were Easter eggers and I thought maybe with one of those I could have colored eggs. BUT while waiting on a reply I came across a beautiful blue boy and it just clicked. So I went and picked a 10 week Blue Andalusian cockerel up.

Now here's the funny part!

He was so small and I wanted him to crow bad! So when I'd go out to check on his girls I'd play YouTube videos of roosters crowing. That went on almost the whole month of December! FINALLY on Christmas he let out his first pathetic squeak of a crow. I was so happy but couldn't stop giggling! So everytime he sees me now he crows. And when I leave he crows.

I kinda taught him to crow I feel like. And I accidentally taught him his "dance" for his girls. Apparently I taught him to crow, so he took it upon his self to learn from me how to dance. And by dance I mean he stumbles around lol I'll blame it on the rain and mud that was constantly there during his flight into maturity. So when he dances for his girls it's quite comical since it's just a bunch of stumbling and a few trips here and there.

Sorry for the long post!

Real Deal Steele came to me after losing Stan the Man. Although no where near the standard of perfection, Real Deal was famous for his impressive wattles and gentle manners with his girls. He did give me the eye a few times which I nipped in the bud and we got along famously. Real Deal was a randy rooster and I allowed him free range access during the day just to give his hens a break from his amorous advances. During one of these layovers an unwanted two-legged visitor tried to break into our house. Since I was home the security alarm was off. Unknown to me, Real Deal was on the job and I heard a ruckus. A high pitched yelping that Lucille Ball would have been glad to own filled the air. Thinking predator, I grabbed the 22 and went for the door. To my surprise a thin, wiry man came thundering around the corner with Real Deal hot on his boots. The man and I came to a halt. We looked at each other in utter silence. I could tell he was thinking bad thoughts. I was scared to death but Real Deal was spot on. He went in full ninja mode and made good use of his spurs. The would-be burglar slapped his thighs and high- tailed it across the pasture. He hopped the fence like an three day eventer and was gone. Satisfied with his work, Real Deal sauntered back to the house, tid-bitted to me and then took a dust bath. The police have the security video and once they stop laughing, I'm sure they'll get their man.

First of all go and write a book, And second of all how funny is that! Oh how funny it must of been to see a burglar runnin' away from some rooster! Lucky you had him eh?

I believe the best breed for a rooster is a Buff Orpington. I love their temperament, but still sometime they forget themselves. haha I love my guy! :love

I have a sort of sad rooster story with a happy ending. Do to horrible people in the world, somebody dumped a rooster by my house. We found it perched on our chain link fence right as it was getting dark. It was supposed to get below 20 degrees that night and would of frozen if we didn't help him. I was able to catch him and put him in a cage for the night. He is a very beautiful and nice bird.
