Actually, that's a bit different from true muffs... notice the direction it is growing... plus, these are hatchery chicks, not chicks from a dedicated breeder...
I disagree, I looked it up, Muffs and beards are from the same gene, you can not have one without the other. If a chicken has a beard it will have muffs. The Porcelain d'Uccle's muffs are pretty small and not as noticeable because of its large beard but they are definitely still there. Also, you said that those birds are hatchery quality and that is why they have large muffs, well the OP's birds are also hatchery quality. The birds that @Chicken Girl1 posted do have muffs, yes they are a little oddly grown but they are still muffs... Feathers coming out directly from the facial skin on the cheeks that are pointing upwards, they fit the definition fine. The Porcelain d'Uccle definitely has muffs, in a well bred bird they may appear smaller but they are still there, you can not have a beard and no muffs, you can not have muffs and no beard.
