I'm a newbie chicken owner, so I wondered if any of the more experienced forum members could give me their opinions the sex of a few of my 18 day old chicks please? ( if it's not too early to tell)

Barred Plymouth rock #1- My guess is pullet

Barred Plymouth rock #2- again I'm guessing pullet

The next two were bought as americaunas but were from a hatchery so I'm guessing they will turn out as easter eggers... any who, I bought all sexed pullets so I'm hoping they are hens but you never know. These seem more tricky to me than the barred Plymouth rocks.

The 4th and 5th pics from the top are the 2nd bpr.. what makes you feel that's a roo, More white barring on the chest? Just wondering, I'm still learning how to tell the difference. Thanks for the reply :)

On the Barred Rocks, just wait. It's a bit too soon.
Females are darker, as they only carry one barring gene. Males appear greyish, and their barring is brighter, whiter and more distinct as they carry two barring genes, as I understand it. In any case, in hatchery stock, the females appear spotty, rather cuckoo in barring.

In true, standard bred Barred Rocks, the females have better baring, but still appear darker in over all appearance.

At 6 weeks, the cockerels will sprout red combs and wattles, while the pullets normally remain yellow in features.

Here are two photos of young Barred Rock pairs. One hatchery grade and the other heritage, standard bred birds.

the first one i would have thought it was a cockerel because its comb is pretty big and my chicks are 3 weeks (21 days) and their combs are not to big well one is and i think it might be a cockerel but im not to sure i might post some pics of my chicks to get some help for my chicks but i think a couple are cockerels because of their combs
