Any idea on breed or too early?

From what the breeder told me, barred rock, americano, and orpington mixed.

Any guesses?

It's a mixed bird, so there is no "breed" to identify.

All I can say is that it appears to have a pea comb, so it is possible that an Ameraucana was used somewhere in the past family history, but not immediately back as it also does not appear to have muffs, which first generation hybrids from Ameraucana have.

So it is totally possible to have had Barred Rock, Ameraucana, and Buff Orpington, or not.

Looks like it will be pretty when it grows up. Part of the fun of hybrids.

The breeder definitely had quite a few hens that were ameraucana, barred rock and orpington so I myself can't wait to see how they turn out.

I do feel that this one may end up being a roo. It's a feisty one lol

This was the roo he had currently. He was beautiful!

Given that we now know dad was a black Ameraucana I can say that this is not an AmeraucanaxAmeraucana. It's got to be one of the other two.

And having bred EEs using ameraucanas I can definitively say that sometimes the genes just fall funny and you get a remarkably un-ameraucana looking bird with no muffs. These two were both F1 easter eggers. Both laid green eggs. Muffs aren't a simple gene they're a complex gene so sometimes it comes out funny.

That pic above is not the exact dad but he was all black with the greenish tinted tail feather.
I'm a total newbie with the breeds but he pretty much had the same body shape and super tall.

Ah, well tall dark and handsome is a common rooster configuration. So it's really up in the air unless you know.

The key traits for an ameraucana are;
Peacombs, squashed low to the head, usually with one or three rows.
Black or grey legs.
Thick muffs and a beard.
An APA recognized or recognized project color.
That tallish looking stance.
Lays blue eggs. (Usually homozygous for blue eggs.)

But on their own any one of these traits means nothing. But chances are good you have an EE dad over some mix of chicks.

From those listed traits from what I can recall he had 3 of 4. So who knows🤣
But I'm pretty close to positive the one I pictured will end up being a roo. I can't wait to see what they look like older! We've had them for about a week now so close to two weeks old.

Omg I just realized he said australorp not americano🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm reading too many chicken threads today.
They both start with an a though 🤪
