I think they were bought by a neighbor as chicks but they have since moved and left them.

They had been fending for themselves for a bit before they came here. They started hanging around the barn so I started feeding them. They go to the top of a tree above the barn at night. I do know I have a hen and a roo but what breed are they? They are small chickens, my cousin use to have silkies and they are not much bigger in size. Just in the last two weeks the roo started crowing and the hen started laying in a nest she built in the empty stall. I can't figure out how to post pictures... The Roo is in my avatar and the hen is black with white ear lobes and blue/grey around the eyes and a small red comb.
Thanks..

Your rooster is a bantam gamebird, could be Old English or American.

Your hen is what looks like a bantam black spanish.

I'm saying bantam because you've stated they're not bigger than a silkie.

yes, she is laying. I have had about a dozen eggs so far. I don't know how old they are. I figured fairly young since he just started crowing and she just started laying. They have formed a tight bond having to fend for themselves for awhile. Her ears are white but around her eyes are a grey/blue color.

Could be a bantam Minorca (are there such things?), but I don't know... she looks like a minature of a pullet I have:

The place I got the pullet from gets their stock from Ideal Poultry. They sell both Minorcas and white faced black spanish.

ChicknGurl yours looks like a Black white faced Spanish. They don't get a white face until about 2 years old and sometimes it's never fully white because of bad breeding.

wyndski, not really sure. The black one does look like it has Black white faced Spanish in her. The roo looks OEGB but could easily be a mix.
