Hi there!
I recently purchased 6 gold top eggs for my broody hen. Of the 6 only 1 hatched and I’m pretty certain it isn’t a gold top After all! From my research it looks nothing like a gold top chicken as is pure white and black! The chick (named peck) is 7 weeks old in these photos. Any suggestions on breed he/she is would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Thank you for your reply. I thought a bit of a mix too, perhaps some silky or light Sussex...from google images I can’t find a chicken that looks the same but I’m sure there must be some out there 🤷‍♀️
You said ‘he’ in your post....do you think Peck is a boy then?

I wasn't familiar with gold tops, so I looked them up with google.

"Gold Tops are a cross between a Silkie and Light Sussex, attractive gold colour, very friendly, non-flyers, make excellent broody hens and pets. Sex can determined on hatching - silver/yellow is male, gold/brown is female."

If that's the kind you've got, then the white color would indicate male.

(But if someone took Gold Top hens and Gold Top roosters and crossed them, any gender of chick could be any of the colors--the sexing by colors only works in the first generation.)

Before I scrolled down, I was going to say cross between silkie and either Colombian wyandotte or light Sussex!

It seems @NatJ has nailed it. The hatchery sent you a male Gold Top, which isn't a breed as such, it is a sex link hybrid. You just got given the wrong sex.

Not the hatchery's fault--no way to sex an egg.

Thank you for this! That would make sense then, so he is a gold top after all. I just presumed (as in the name) that they would all be gold no matter what the sex. Mystery solved!
