I know there’s a million reasons why chicks could die, but I’m hoping to see if this was a ‘just because’ or maybe something I should watch for. We got 4 pullets from a local farm a week ago, they were between 1-2 weeks. This is my 3rd time with chicks and I’ve never lost one before. Our brooder is about 2’ by 3’ with a red light over half and plenty of space for them to get away from the heat if needed. I use flake bedding, on Purina flock raiser (we were hoping our lone hen would go broody for them) and I alternate regular water and electrolyte water. On Wednesday one of our chicks was being very lethargic. I helped her drink water a couple times during the day and watched her eat on her own. By the next morning she was thriving with the rest of them. Last night I noticed another seemed more lethargic than usual, but not anything like the original. She was eating, drinking and running, just not as much as the rest. I made sure she had water and watched her eat, but this morning I came out and she had passed in the night. Her poops we’re small and darker brown, sometimes with white. They were regular chick consistency (soft). They’re in our garage where we raised chicks last year so no cookware issues. Truly lost for what could have happened. Thank you.
