I posted a couple days before about what to look for with mites. This is what her belly looks like...I gave her a bath in peppermint castile soap as suggest and also rubbed a soothing ointment with vitamin e, etc. on her skin. I can't find a bug whatsoever on her or on several of the other girls that I checked over. I had to order the DE so I can't get that until next week, but I don't think it is mites anymore. Unless I really just can't see them. Also, she has that spot up higher, closer to her chest. Whatever is it? It is hard...almost sharp, like a bone. Could it be from when she hatched? I know they don't have umbilical cords, but I just can't think of what it could be. Maybe a hernia? As far as the redness...could she have excema? Her feathers, as you can see are almost gone. What was left whee heavy with stuck on pooh. I got most of it cleaned up with the bath, but there is some real serious dried up stuff that wouldn't budge - even with a little gentle scrubbing. Can I trim the feathers? She eats and drinks fine. Feels heavy breasted so she's not loosing weight. Seems to be getting along fine with everyone else. She obviuosly had some loose poop at one time or she wouldn't have had such a messy butt, but it's hard to tell which droppings belong to who so I am not sure if it is ongoing. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I couldn't figure out how to post pictures on here as I have seen some others do. I didn't think about having to sign in for MSN and all. Any suggestions on other ways to post pictures?

It looks like some sort of abscess. The pics aren't big enough for me to see it well. Is is crusty or?

Yeah, I guess it is kind of crusty. But hard at the same time. Not crusty like a cold sore that is healing up gets crusty edges, but crusty like hard. I don't know that that made any sense at all. I don't know if I can get the pictures any bigger. I didn't pick or poke at it much. I just felt it when I was bathing her. And when my hand ran up against it, it was kind of sharp. You can see from the last picture, I tried to slant it, that it is very thin along the bottom side. It kindof sticks out away from the skin...not attached. I see you are from MI, me too...near Lansing.

I wish I could see better. Is she a Buff Orp? A splinter or a sore? Was she broody recently?

I would try warm baths with no scented products to see if it loosens like a scab would. What kind of bedding is she on?

Chicks have umbilical cords of sorts where the yolk mets the embryo, but the yolk is absorbed into abdomen before hatch.

I am in SE MI, south of Detroit. My SIL is in Lansing, never left after getting PHD in plant cloning
