Just noticed that one of my Rhode Island Red hens has an unusual bulge below her tail feathers.

Today the ladies (4 RIR, 1 Golden Comet) gave three eggs. Four is about average. Three isn't all that unusual but I'm guessing she's egg bound.

Any suggestions on what to do?

Thank you!

If she is egg bound, try to feel underneath her for the egg. If you do suspect an egg is caught, try to let her sit in a warm bath of mineral oil and water to try and relax her vent muscles. You can also insert mineral oil into her vent and feed her a tums or calcium chew. Worst case is you have to break the egg inside of her and start her on an antibiotic to see if she'll pull through.
It could also be fluid build up caused by infection, internal laying etc... which isn't good new either. Try feeling for an egg and see what happens. Best Wishes
