Scraggly?

This one didn’t feather out like the rest . I’m going to up their protein but why is this little ones feathers looking so bad?

I thought the delayed feather growth (it’s almost caught up with the others) was because this one is a boy but it wasn’t just delayed .. it looks like someone chewed up its feathers. It’s not being picked on . It grew out like that.

It will be 21 days tomorrow and no sign of it being a boy I don’t think.

What are you feeding that you need to up the protein?

Looks like not all the keratin sheaths on the feathers have come off yet.
Do your chicks have a way to take a dust bath?

Well I am feeding chick starter. I’m figuring that it might need more protein because it’s feathers don’t look good.

I gave them some eggs and grit.

Here’s another of the same hatch . This one doesn’t look that way.

No dust bath yet I still have them in the house .

I do agree the feathers don't look as good as the others.
I see bits of keratin still on the feathers. Do you see this chick preen at all?
Fluff the feathers a bit to see if those will come off.
Eggs make a fine treat.
All you can do at this point is watch to see that the chick is eating/drinking o.k.
They do go through a rough looking stage. They will go through several mini/juvenile molts so it will be a while before you actually see what the final result is going to be.
