Any ideas about what kind of chickens these are?

Looks like a molting SLW hen that is too skinny.. What kind of comb does it have?

The friend who gave them to me says she's not molting, that she always has bald spots... but I think she's molting. There are feathers all over my yard. I've only had them a few days and don't know anything about chickens -- so I don't even know how to answer what kind of comb she has. I'll see if I can figure it out. I think she must be a SLW cross of some sort.

Is her comb like this:

Called a rose comb (my hen's comb is a bit weird and not as smooth as it should be, but it is a rose comb) or is it like this:

a single comb.

It's like the second one, the single. And mine isn't as pretty as yours, her feathers don't have that pretty clear outline. They're generally white with a black rim, but not so uniform. But she's nice and I like her!

Probably just a mix then

Hopefully she will complete her molt soon and feather back out. She could have had some rooster damage. Does your friend have roos?

No, there were no roos at her previous home, and she was really well cared for, so if she's skinny, that's a surprise to me. I think there was some hen-pecking though. That's why she gave these two to me last week.

Poor thing!

She could have been prevented from eating from the mean hens. Or she is just a slimmer breed. Wyandottes are usually full, and she does look to have quite a bit of wyandotte in her (even if she has a straight comb, the hatchery girls sometimes do). Obviously it wasn't from lack of caring - because the other hen is very plump!

I'll try to fatten her up! The big girl definitely hogs up the best treats for herself and then takes what's left away from the black one. I'm learning as I go, and generally I'm just relieved every morning if they're still alive and nothing has broken into their coop and eaten them.

I found a better picture of them, but this was from last year. The black one is really ragged and balding now.

I'm sorry, but that's a strange looking SLW, if that's what it is supposed to be. I mean, it looks like it is, but that dang tail! LMAO!!!

It looks like it's mixed with some type of bantam. She looks much smaller than the EE in your first 2 pics.
