Any ideas for an inexpensive privacy fence?

Rolled reed fencing is going to be cheaper than bamboo rolled fencing, but it won't last very long, maybe a couple of years before it starts disintegrating. By that time, though, you could have some vines or even real bamboo growing into a nice visual barrier.

I don't know where you live, but around here, bamboo is invasive and easily obtained. People will let you cut all you want and will be glad for it. Maybe you could start collecting it and weave it together yourself. It would be green at first then turn tan as it dries out. It lasts a long time but will have to be replaced eventually. If you are considering growing your own, take my advice and use large pots. Once it is in the ground, it is constant work to control/contain and nearly impossible to kill. Im with you though, it is pretty!

Yup the rolled reed fencing is way cheaper. Bamboo is invasive here as well. There is a joke running that if you don't like your neighbors, plant bamboo near your ditch. I'm looking at a taller, more private fence myself. I've looked at the reed fencing, as it would take care of the issue until I can save up for wood panels.

You could also collect reclaimed lumber and spend extra time sealing it and building your own panels? Would take more of your time, but less of your money. It's a trade off

When we moved here to Tucson from CA; it took us 9 mths in a rental vacation house to find a rental property we felt would fit our needs..we wanted to get a feel for the whole area before buying. Well, we ended up coming to the far west side, something we did not expect, but it is all one acre and larger lots, and a lot of small farm operators..which is great..... this place had about 90% of what we wanted for a property..anyway, 2 sides of this acre is chain linked..the front is open and the right has oleanders as a fence line. I HATE the fact this property is so open..I can see everyone, they can see us..but I figured I could live with it..since it had so many great things too........since fencing is so expensive, and this isn't our house...we too looked into vining plants, more oleanders, etc. We have planted bougainvillea, oleanders and trumpet vine..it will take awhile, but they all have a decent growth rate..something to think about..becuase once they are established..they are beautiful and provide good privacy. I was able to find oleander plants on sale at Lowes for $2 each, bucket bougs were only $5. Now I know some will say "toxic plants" this whole community is filled with these plants and animals are everywhere..I have tons of rabbits and quail living in the oleanders..not worried.

Confederate Jasmine works good too. It also smells good when it in bloom. Otherwise, we have the dog-eared privacy fence around our yard and yes it can be costly, but I love it. If you really want that type my suggestion would be to buy a panel or two and posts as you can afford it and it will be up in no time.

Lots of good ideas, I like the vines and I have to look up this reed fencing, it doesn't even matter if you can sort of see thru it, it's wide open now so anything would be better than that. My chicken enclosure it pretty neat and well kept so I doubt it is an eyesore to him, but his junk is to me, plus alittle privacy would be nice, I feel like I always have eyes on me when Im out doing things in my yard

I know how you feel. Privacy was such an important thing on our list but when our list was so big..and 90% of everything else was here..we broke down. We also have to choose drought resistant plants as well, can be challenging!
