Any ideas on breed of these rescue ducks?

Several reasons and most are silly...
We live in city and no roosters allowed. No roos, so would prefer no drakes either.
We had 2 drakes we adopted from a friend who didnt know if they were male or female. Ummmm, males. And since we had no other ducks at the time, they thought our chickens made great mates. Ummmm, NO!
We rehomed them to make lots of duck babies on a friends farm but because we fell in love with the Muscovy breed, we bought some hens from him.

And childhood trauma of Mom buying fresh farm eggs and some were developed because they had a roo. So even if we could have one, I probably wouldnt. I didnt eat eggs for YEARS after that... even store-bought for fear of it happening. Now I am a grown up and know better!LOL So no roo and would prefer no drake.

AND I run a childcare. I do not want to have to explain to kids and then parents what kids witnessed..... this is a clean urban farm so to speak with city parents who think it is cool to bring kids to a daycare with farm animals but don't want their kids to step in poo or see things like mating.....

If we had a larger property where we could have drakes separate from everyone else.... I might have them.

Though I already told hubby that if one of these turns out to be a drake, after all they have been thru... it might be hard not to figure out how to keep them.....
I understand completely I saw you had a child care and do realize they could be tramatized by a big ole drake chasing down a duck, nope would not want to explain that one. So hope your 2 new ones are girls.

We do have roos also but I make sure to collect eggs daily so as not to have what you experienced happen, and always know who my broody's are.

My runners' philosophy is that a duck needs a drake like a fish needs a bicycle.

Bean, Hazel and Carmella were, in fact, for Romy's (Buff) benefit.

Romy likes boys.

I'm thinking most ducks after spending one breeding season with a drake probably feel the way your Runners do.

12 girls to hang with.... WOW!LOL

Ours all share the run and coop, chickens and ducks. If we got a drake, we would have to separate him or the ducks period. I think that would be a hard adjustment for the 3 girls we do have as they have been with the chickens for a long time.

We will see what life brings in the next month with these 2!LOL

Yeah....parents are all cool that I have chickens and ducks and know they are in yard and kids can get poop on shoes.... but send a kid home with poop on their shoe and it is like OMG! EWWWW to them. So yeah.... explaining birds and bees..... not getting paid enough for that one!LOL

We have raised a few roos as they were supposed to be pullets and became roos. We were sad to see them go but laws in Portland is no roos in city limits so unless I paid to have him de-noised or whatever you want to call it..... I couldnt have kept them. And they were always cool personalities.

The 2 drakes we had were AWESOME despite coming from living conditions they were in. Of course the place last night made our friends place look like a palace. Those 2 drakes had great personalities and thought they were lap dogs but they liked chickens too much..... I wanted ducks but not that way!LOL
