any ideas on how i can keep my free range chickens off the porch and out of the dog food?

its getting annoying, the chickens eat all the dog food, so my poor dog is left hungry, and all the poop on the porch is nasty.... just wanted to see if there is any way some of yall have found that works to keep them off besides a gait

I have the same issue! I love having my chickens on the grass off my patio to enjoy watching them, but not ON the patio. I have been working on trying to consistently spay them with water whenever they get on the patio. It is a battle, and I have to be so consistent, but I am hoping they will eventually learn. Ugh! My mother told me they trained their ducks to stay off their patio this way, so I am hopeful!

Mine know they're not supposed to be on the porch, so most run even if they see us through the window, but I have plenty of stubborn girls that'll make you either chase them off, or get the hose! Last Fall we bought a nice tent covered gazebo thing with netting around it, so I'm hoping for at least a small area I'm not always spraying poo from. Gonna get it up soon so we'll see, but my girls usually follow me around just in case I have a treat, so I'm thinking they'll figure a way in. Good thing I love those chickens so much! Never thought I'd spend so much free time spraying chicken poo from our deck, patio and driveway!

I fenced out the front porch area, but seldom close the gate (2 gates 1 stays closed. When they girls come into the area, I stick a broom out the door and wave it around. The girls run to the other side of the house. If I would just close the gate I would not have to do that,,,,lazy me!
Everyone needs a poo free zone!
