I got a 'baker's dozen' bantam chick assortment a couple days ago, and the curiosity is killing me. *grin*

i ended up with 2 of the same breed/color/whatever, the rest are individuals of their color/etc... 7 are feather-legged, the other 6 are clean legs.

keep in mind i've had these chicks for 2 days and i think tractor supply said they got them in 2 days before. (maybe longer?)

I've numbered them by the order the pics were taken in, so forgive if there isn't any rhyme or reason to my 'system' other than that's how they came out of the box.

description is below the pic...

feather-legs

3bt.jpg

3 - buff chick - flights are showing some black speckling

6bt.jpg

6 - pale blue/yellow fuzz, flights are coming in a pale blue/grey tint

7bt.jpg
7ct.jpg

7 - got 2 of these. they are greyish with darker stripes/speckling in the fuzz, flights are dark with a light edge

10at.jpg

10 - dark grey/black with ligher grey/silver undersides and wings, face has more of a yellow/tan tinge to it, flights are dark with tan/buff on the leading edges

11at.jpg

11 - dark brown back with lighter brown/tan undersides/wings, flights are dark with light tan edges and some speckling in the dark - sorry the pics are fuzzy, she wouldn't hold still!

12ct.jpg

12 - originally thought was a white silkie, but has pink skin. does have 5 toes. light yellow fuzz, flights are coming in white

for the clean leggers,

1bt.jpg
1ct.jpg

1 - teeny - black and white fuzz in an interesting pattern, primary flights are mostly white with some grey/black shading (not near the tips) and the first few secondary flights are white, the rest black

2bt.jpg

2 - nice brown/red fuzz with darker (brown/black) stripes on its back. small black stripe on the back of the head/neck. flights are coming in brown/black speckled

4ct.jpg

4 - teeny - blue/grey fuzz, darker on top of head and back of neck, flights are coming in a medium shade of grey with slightly lighter tips - this chick is the first to sound off about ANYTHING. nicknamed 'the mouth' LOL

5at.jpg
5dt.jpg
5et.jpg

5 - teeny - multi-colored fuzz, light grey with brown areas bordered in black, black 'eyeliner' as well. pics do a better description... flight feathers are speckled grey/black

8at.jpg
8et.jpg

8 - pretty sure this one's a polish but not 100%. has mostly black fuzz with a white 'topknot' - i've noticed irregular dark spots on the legs and face.

9ct.jpg

9 - for some reason this teeny little one may near the top of my favorites list. mostly and inky black fuzz with lighter buff pattern around the head/face. flights are pure black.

I've loaded these and more pics to my own website (under construction) but the pics folder works at least... http://ki4got.com/pics/chicks yeah pretty simple LOL
if it ends in t it's the thumbnail, the rest were resized for convenience... there are a number of group shots as well.

maybe someone can help ease the curiosity syndrome LOL
I'm not even going to try sexing them yet...
thanks for any thoughts/ideas

I'll take a stab at this. I got bantams for teh first time this year, but I got several and have been reading this forum ever since! LOL

3. Buff cochin or brahma, depending on comb. Single comb= cochin, pea= brahma. ?
6. looks like a porcelain d'Uccle
7. dark brahma or partridge cochin?
11. partridge cochin?
12. is a salmon faverolle. for sure. I got one. Girls feather in light tan/gray on their wings, white on their bellies, boys black on their bellies, darker wings. Mine is 4 weeks old now and she's quite beautiful! Unless it suddenly sprouts a pouf, then it's a sultan.

I got one of those, too, but mine had the pouf very obviously before I bought it.
4. looks exactly like my splash Dutch bantam
8. white crested black Polish

The ones I didn't guess I have no idea.

I am going to try, not that I am an expert by any means, and sometime it so hard to tell from pics, but I will put in my 2cents worth in

3-buff cochin
6-porcelain d'uccle
7-partridge cochin
10-mille fleur d'uccle
11-red cochin
12-salmon favorelle
1-not sure at all--maybe mottled jap, alot more black than I am used to seeing but I had some like that a couple years back and for the love of pete I cannot remember what they grew up to be:oops:
2-again not sure. If belly pretty white than I say spangled old english. If not..maybe bbr?
4-self blue old english. head looks tanish to me and if so i would vote porcelain old english. I have one hen..by far one of the prettiest birds I have ever owned.
5-bbr old english
8-polish
9-again not sure..if it was fuzzy faced i would guess maybe d'anver. Not to easy to tell in pic.

Again, I am by far no expert, just thought I would put my insomnia to good use and take a stab at it. I love bantams, they are my favorites!!!

This was so helpful, I was having the same problem identifying some of my new banties and you have several of the same kind that I got. Number 8 is definitely a White Crested Black Polish ( I have one that is now 8 weeks old from a previous trip to TSC) Also where in NC are you located?

thanks i think they're cute. the dogs are fascinated. my older dog Shadow is becoming posessive of them and will stand for hours watching them. he won't let my other dog (1 year) near without a grumble LOL

If you're asking me, I'm not in NC but in VA. between roanoke and blacksburg.

thanks again for all the help. for the chicks with ?? we'll see if anyone else has a suggestion LOL. who knows.

I am located just over the NC VA border so we aren't too far away from each other. I am going to post some of my photos as well, I just discovered one of the bantams is Definitely a Buff silkie so that is exciting too. I have a golden retriever who loves to just sit and watch them, and a cat that loves to rub all over them (my other 4 cats are jealous bc Jasper is the only one with visiting rights lol)

How long have you been raising chickens? This is a first time adventure for me. I got my first 6 in March and havent been able to stop since then...
