Welcome to the site. Thats really unfortunate what happened to your silkie. I just got 4 silkies myself but I bought pullets. I have never raised one from a chick but have been told that some breeds are just harder to raise. I do know from experience that sometimes they just die even if they do have friends. Some chicks just dont have what it takes. Good luck on the next time around.
