Have taken some photos of 'his' head, he's 11 weeks old. Top photo shows recent change to the back of his head. Not sure if this is malting or pecking from my silkie! Have parted his crest to look for a comb but can't see anything yet.
Last photo is from a few weeks ago but shows his face better.
I don't have a lot of experience with Polish specifically, but my guess is he's a cockerel... and yes, he's molting... chickens usually molt their juvenile feathers out for their adult feathers between 10-12 weeks or so... I guess cockerel from the second pic as the spot at the base of his beak has a really dark pink/red area like wattles would be for other breeds... and hard to see in the pics and from his coloring, but might be some pointed hackle feathers coming in around his neck...
I think it's a pullet, her crest looks bushy and well behaved. Cockerels tend to have wild rock start crests with streamers sticking out. They could still develop but, at this time it looks like a pullet.
I have a standard Buff Polish Rooster that is 5 months old. Got him at three months old and he was already crowing and had very red wattles and a red comb under his head feathers.
Safe to say yours is a Pullet!
Polish Roos are very proud guys!! They love to strut and Be seen!!!
