Any ideas what these chicks are? They were sold as variety.

LOl. The waiting game is on Kelly13. Unfortunately you probably have to wait a few more weeks to find out what they are when they begin to feather out. I'll be watching for new pictures if you can post new ones in 6 to 8 weeks.

I certainly will!! I did venture back to the feed store and now the chicks I bought have been labeled as dark brahmas. The guy there said he wasn't sure however!

Lol..I hate how the feed stores for the most part make such a mess of selling chicks. It's not that difficult for them to take a day or 2 to learn about chicken breeds/chicks and familiarize themselves with what chicks they are carrying! It would really save new chicken owners so many problems. I think I found a reputable small scale hatchery here and I am most likely going to buy from her in the future so I don't have to deal with guessing breeds because of ignorant sales clerks. At least I'll know what I'm getting, won't have to deal with over handled stressed out chicks and can return the roos to them if they give me the wrong sex...no packing peanut dilemma..lol!

Agreed! On feathersite.com the pics of black brahmas look basically identical! One started to get a little black and white feathering on the wing. Sooo cute. I just wonder when they get feathers on their actual legs. I would be very happy with brahmas as it's super cold here in the winter and they are suppose to be very docile! Plus some have the black and white feathering like a barred rock. My boyfriend thinks I'm crazy, cuz I sit and just inspect them and talk to them! Lol who knew I would be addicted to chickens!

Brahma chicks hatch with downy fuzz on their legs which turn into feathers as they mature and feather out. I don't think your chicks are Brahma since they have clean legs.

I suggest you find out from the feed store what hatchery they get their chicks from. You can then look up that hatcheries catalog online and see if you can get a clue as to what your 2 are. Maybe you can also ask the feed store to look at and maybe show you the shipping receipt/manifest from the shipment your chicks came in. It should list the different breeds that were shipped and will help you narrow down your search.

Just throwing my guess out but I think its a Wyandotte. I have silver laced chicks right now and there are some that are lighter marked like your first chick but a few are darker with color on their wings and faces. Just my guess :)
