hello folks

im looking for any info on any shows or auctions in south carolina area i would prefer any info on ones around central south carolina if possible

not sure if this proper section for this but figured i'd ask

ive been to 1 auction around by me and let me tell you

ive not seen so many bad sick chickens ever in 1 little barn

runny beaks swollen eyes sneezing badly or injured chickens...even many many very old ones on their last leg

my wife looked at me and said lets leave b4 this thing starts

so any info would be appreciatted

thank you for your time folks

I stay away from auctions and fleamarkets. Just seen too many birds in bad condition to take that chance.

The only SC shows I have heard of are:
Camden, SC(Oct 3)
Clemson, SC(Nov 21)
Orangeburg, SC(Dec 5)

For the best selection I would hed north a bit.

Morganton, NC (Oct 31): Double show, should be rather large this year.
Salisbury, NC(Nov 7): Old English Game show, but the parking lot will be full of all different breeds of chickens, ducks, etc.
Winston-Salem(Nov 28): Normally the Largest NC Show with a great selection in the selling area.

I will be at the Morganton and Winston-S shows.

Hello! York, SC! My best guess is that you went to Dixie! Not the best and probably the worst auction in SC. I admit auctions are not the best place to find good stock but there are 2 good ones not too far from you. Family Auction Barn in Jefferson, SC and Cathcart Auctions in Union, SC. Cathcart is small but I've seen some nice birds there. Both will pull a crate in a skinny minute if the bird appears sick. We attend auctions when we're hunting a new rooster. Most, always end up with 3 roosters to every hen so auctions are the best place to sale a single rooster. I've picked up several SQ OEG bantam roosters at auctions. The key to buying at auctions or anywhere for that matter is to keep what you buy seperate from your stock for about 2 weeks. During that time, medicate them, worm them and dust them for mites - just to be on the safe side.

By the way, what type of chickens do you raise?????

thank you much for the info and you were right about the auction i was at...NOONE checks the livestock they sell at all and dont really care it seems,,many many bad birds there....i always keep any new birds away from main flock for at least 2 weeks mostly 3 weeks to be safe

as far as what i raise here:

i raise golden comet/New hampshire red chickens...NHR Roo..great birds and hardy as all

black and red sex links also..waiting on them to finally lay then will get a nice roo for them

white silkie roo mixing with blue black and buff females

white black tail japanese bantams..waiting on them to lay also..already mate but wont lay yet

have 4 broody hens right now and only 1 is setting on a pile and wont come off

and of course BR and RIR hens also..think most folks have them

i only have around 125 chickens for right now...but im always looking to add to what i have here

always looking for something new that i dont have already...i want to have a big variety here one day

also have at least 35 chicks running around also

again ty for the info i need to see if google has any info on the 2 ya mentioned

Just in case you can't find anything on google -

Family Auction Barn, Jefferson, SC - every Saturday at 6 - goats sale first and then small animal. This auction is usually pretty large and can have anywhere from 200-400 crates/cages. Concrete floor and no smoking! Hot and hard bench seating but new facility and clean. Extremely nice and religious family owned and operated. Worth the drive. If you want to get a good closer look at something - they will let you.

Cathcart Auctions, Union, SC - the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month at 10 am. This auction is small and may have 20-50 crates. It's a clean mesco type building with concrete floors, heat and air conditioning, and no smoking. Also, owned and operated by a extremely nice and religious family and they treat you like family after you've been there twice. It's not but a 30 minute drive for us so only 20-50 crates is fine for us. Usually there is a Clemson Ext agent on site testing birds which keeps away the people with sick birds.

Google should be able to give you an address and map it for you but if not let me know.

i live in orangburg county, about 10 mins from the fair ground where the dec 5 show will be...as for the flea markets just know what your getting.. i have got alot of good birds and some bad ones.. there is a flea market in springfield, most of the people there are good to buy from but then you have some bad ones....
