Any Last Minute Tips???

I just have a regular thermometer that shows temp and humidity. I am hoping when I get home that the humidity is reading ok. My temp was very steady at 100 last night and this morning. I may end up taking out some of the water too, will see if that helps

for all your tips!!

I tried to candle my welsummer eggs last night, just to look at them before I put them in the bator, but they are so dark, couldn't see anything. Also will be putting in light sussex. I looked at those too, but couldn't really tell anything.

The hygrometers are almost always wrong, and sometimes they're off by 15 or more so it's really worthwhile to calibrate them. Thank you for the happy candling thoughts. The only really dark eggs I have in the bator are from my sex links, but they're all brown or blue/green and I haven't done this before so I'm not sure how much I'll be able to see.

This is day 11 for me. I was going to try last night, but we had company so I put it off.

I'm hoping I can at least figure out what is bad enough to potentially explode and get those out.
The bator is in our bedroom so exploding rotten eggs would be a really bad thing.

I have looked at pics of eggs being candled, so I hope when I do it, I will know what the heck I am looking at..............The whole incubator process is very stressful!!

Hope I don't have all duds............................

Candling on the dark eggs or green eggs can be difficult depending on the shell density. A good candler is really nice as is a good thermometer and hygrometer.

The best thermometer was recommended to me by SpeckledHen and it is a "spotcheck" it is really accurate but I still bought two to cross check (eases my mind)

Hygrometers, well I just have the ol' ebay ones that are temp/hygrometer together. I would like to get a good one but don't know what is the best to get.

If you are having a hard time candling the dark eggs, just wait until day 10-14 and if the egg is mostly dark it developed. The ones that don't develop are quite light inside compared to the developed ones.

Don't forget to turn them three times a day. Did you do the whole X vs O on the egg so you know which side to turn them onto?

Yeah, I was gonna wait till about day 8-10 to check them, hopefully will see some development!

Yes, did the X and O on the eggs. However, with me at work all day, they will only get turned 2X a day, hopefully that is ok.

I am so excited about this!!!!!

I just hope some of them hatch, if not I will try again!

It will most likely be fine to turn twice but more is better for the developing embryo. When you can afford to get it, an automatic egg turner is so very nice. I love mine. Plug it in and forget it!

yeah, I think that is my next purchase......Cause I plan on hatch many more, so I figure it will be a good investment!
