Any mechanics/ comiserators out there (Dodge 1500)

You got a technology school around there that teaches auto mechanics, they have the kids(supervised) do the work and you pay parts....thats the way it works around here....

Or an ag shop or something like that. Check it out.

Really?? Mine is automatic and I have heard LOTS of people say the same thing about that particular transmission. I have heard people say that they just aren't built well.

I wouldn't mind having a manual, but my truck is already an automatic.

I didn't even think about that. There's a community college around here that may have that kind of program. I will check that out~!

There's not a lot that can go wrong with a manual trans. Obviously the clutch and throwout bearing are wear items, but the rest is just a big gearbox. I know... doesn't help you a bit. Just sayin'.

I bought it new in '99 and specifically ordered a manual trans, better gas mileage, minimal problems...

All we drive are Dodge trucks and I've never had a problem with the transmissions either. Mine were all automatic. DH also has a 1980 Dodge PowerWagon and the old betsy still plows our driveway.

Good luck with your troubles. We have u-pull-it junkyards around here and that's usually the easiest and most economical way to get parts.

Yeah, I know most Dodges are great. We didn't find out about the transmission thing until AFTER we bought. It's in the model year 1998...

I drive a '98. We've never had any tranny problems, even now that she's got over 140,000 miles on her.

Maybe you just ended up with a lemon.
