My young muscovies are realizing that they have "wings" and that they can fly. I was wondering if any of you muscovy owners have ever had a problem with your muscvoy ducks taking flight and leaving to not return. My older girls do fly down the street about a mile but they always fly back. I'm never worried about them. I was just curious if anyone has had a flight problem. Would love to hear from any muscovy owners out there.

We have a lot of property so mine only fly to the creek and back, but mostly they walk with the rest....i think they know the geese get jealous and will be mean later, lol.

I would be worried about neighbors getting annoyed with them and possibly doing something, or a stray or neighborhood dog getting ahold of them. i would reccomend clipping their wings. thankfully we only have 1 neighbor for 6 months out of the year and the ducks have only gotten over there a couple times before we moved them to the opposite field!

We clip one wing and just leave the last couple on for looks. We have many muscovies and flight is an issue with the bush and its predators. They can clear a 6 foot fence in a heartbeat. The males, at least here, are too big (and lazy) to take flight.

I had one girl last year that took off and I thought we had lost her. She did show back up a week or so later.... we clipped her wing. I'm getting ready to clip wings in the next day or so. We do have neighbors, we are all on 2-5 acres here, and we don't want the ducks over in their yards, or on the their roofs. Right now 6 of the girls are roosting in the big spruces every night too high up for us to get them down. That means early in the a.m. they may be flying up onto the house, front yard, or someplace we would rather NOT have them plus I'd feel better if they were secured in the duck shed/house for the night along w/the drakes. We do have one drake who has begun flying up w/the girls so he may get his wing clipped also.

If the girls stayed down he might too so ...we will see. He has been flying up in the tree... not as high as the girls... but generally comes down right at lock up and goes on into the duck house.

I have never encountered a problem with my ducks flying away, I have 16 of them. I have also been fortunate enough not to have to clip the wings as there is a big empty field behind my house where they like to fly around. If I had close neighbors, I would definitely clip their wings, I know I wouldnt be happy if I didnt have ducks and they pooped all over my roof, wanna keep them neighbor friendly for sure.

Our Muscovy fly around sometimes. They never go far and they never fly away. My Drake likes to fly up and perch on my 2nd story deck, look through the glass door at us and show off.

My scovies fly, they love to have a daily run-around-the-pen-flapping-crazily too. Funny to watch

I love watching them fly, but mine never fly away. Only to escape their pen and fly to the dam for a swim.

When my scovie girl first started flying i went out to the yard and she was missing, looked around and saw her on the roof of our house looking very proud of herself. She was sitting with a coupla birds wagging her tail and chortling
