I'm not sure how many Nashville, TN people are on here, but I just found out this morning that the Metro Planning Commission is hearing arguments this afternoon regarding a bill to ban chickens from Nashville's backyards. Anyone who would like to speak will be given 2 minutes.

Just FYI...

A useful comment is that the ordinance should address the nuisance, not its cause.

The article posted said that noise is the concern. So the ordinance should address noise levels (including time of day) and frequency of occurrance. A barking dog at 3 am for half an hour is generally considered to be more annoying than a hen who announces her egg for 5 minutes at 10 am. A dragster engine revving for 10 or 15 minutes is far louder and more annoying than either of the above, regardless of time.

Yes! I totally agree! If we're going to talk about nuisances, let's talk about nuisances. My neighbor to the back raises pit bulls. They bark ALL hours of the day and night. I guarantee he has never heard my chickens, nor have any of my chickens been in his yard. However, his pit bulls regularly terrorized my yard (even killing one of my cats) before we put up a fence. Now, don't get me wrong. I have dogs and I believe he has a right to have his dogs, BUT if we're comparing nuisances... there's NO comparison!

Sorry, that's just my rant...
